Paleo Video

Alistair Ramsay - Monday, July 05, 2010
Here is a neat video explaining some of the rationale behind Paleo Eating. The basic idea is this, as a race we have been farming for approximately 10,000 years, yet genetically speaking we have been evolving for the last 2,000,000 years. Our bodies are simply not designed to eat a diet consisting primarily of processed grains and other farm produced foods. The 10,000 year window that we have been eating them is not long enough for our genetic code to have evolved to process these foods effectively. This is why so many people get fat and sick eating a diet built from pasta, breads and cereals coupled with cheap animal meat and dairy. Modern commercial farming methods have massively exacerbated the problem with the use of chemicals, hormones and antibiotics on crops and livestock!

Whilst not an obsessive compulsive Paleo follower I do think it is the way forwards. I strive to limit my intake of processed grains and other refined carbs/junk. Instead opting to eat a diet consisting mainly of plants (vegetables and some fruits) coupled with plenty of organic protein sources (eggs, lean meat, fish) and healthy fats like nuts, seeds, avocado's and oils. I have not been ill (touch wood) for a long time and find it very easy to stay lean eating in this manner!
